Tummy Tuck – A New Version of an Old Procedure is Trademarked
Flat is out. Sculpted is in. Need proof? Read the August 3, 2008 feature in New York Magazine that touts the "new" facelift technique chosen by Madonna, Demi Moore and Michelle Pfeifer. The article explains that the "old" facelift technique creates a lifted but flat facial appearance, whereas the new facelift looks more like Mother Nature intended, with the natural contours and sculpting of a young face. In the same way, the High-Definition Tummy Tuck(TM), a revolutionary tummy tuck procedure trademarked by California plastic surgeon Dr. Siamak Agha, employs sculpting to create the look of healthy, well-contoured abs, a step beyond traditional tummy tuck’s flatter results. Check out the Victoria’s Secret models-they have sculpted, 3-dimensional abs.
A Tummy Tuck (called abdominoplasty by medical folks), is a plastic surgery procedure that removes saggy skin and excess belly fat caused by past pregnancy, normal aging and/or weight loss. When combined with breast implants and/or a breast lift, it’s often called a "Mommy Makeover." Women throughout the world have jumped on the opportunity to regain the pre-pregnancy silhouette offered by the Mommy Makeover procedure. Further, for individuals who have worked hard to lose weight only to be left with sagging skin and tissue, the traditional tummy tuck has given them a flat abdomen.
To achieve a flat abdomen non-surgically, men and women typically spend many hours performing abdominal exercises and must adhere to a strict diet. However, exercise and diet cannot eliminate stretch marks, shrink belly skin or tighten abdominal muscles stretched by pregnancy and weight gain. Although the surgical route will cost more than a gym membership, it may be a logical investment for men and woman who have lost significant amounts of weight, as well as for women who have finished their families and wish to rid themselves of stretch marks and a saggy belly.
The High-Definition Tummy Tuck(TM) delivers all the benefits of the traditional tummy tuck but goes several steps further to create a three-dimensional silhouette with six-pack-like fullness over the abdominal muscles and depressions in all of the right places. Not to mention a scar that’s placed 1-1 ½" lower, so it’s much harder to see. In other words, it’s a sculpted result as compared with the flat result of the traditional tummy tuck procedure. Flat is out. Sculpted is in.
In a traditional Tummy Tuck, the surgeon places an incision in the bikini-line, that area of the lower abdomen generally hidden by bikini bottoms or panties, i.e., about 1" above the pubic bone. Then the abdominal area is lifted up to the lower ribs, after which loose underlying abdominal muscles are brought together and sutured, the belly button is relocated to its new position on the belly and the skin is pulled down to the site of the incision. Before final suturing, the excess skin and fat are removed to result in a flat abdominal contour. An abdominoplasty will eliminate the lower abdominal stretch marks in the skin that is removed. Unfortunately, this technique does not necessarily result in the natural look of a youthful belly, and the scar is often more noticeable than one would like.
The High-Definition Tummy Tuck(TM) procedure parts ways with the traditional tummy tuck to create a more sculpted look: (A) the incision is 1-1 ½" lower-it’s placed within the pubic hair and in the groin crease, which greatly minimizes the scar’s appearance; (B) the abdomen is carefully liposuctioned to sculpt the fatty areas away to trim the waistline; (C) some fat is left to mimic the highly-sought chiseled abdomen and (D) the lower-scar technique lifts the front of the thigh.
This signature procedure has been highlighted by highly-respected, prominent news sources, such as CNBC, Reuters, Smart Money and over 100 print publications.
Both the traditional abdominoplasty procedure and the High-Definition Tummy Tuck(TM) are performed under general anesthesia in a hospital operating room or an accredited ambulatory surgery suite, such as that in a plastic surgeon’s office, and should only be performed by a highly qualified plastic surgeon with both the training and experience to create reliable results.
